payment
I need to buy a $1000 machine in China. They want me to do an EFT. From what I can find on the net the bank would require my name and address. What about Western Union? Online they ask for DOB (maybe other data??-that's when I pulled the plug). How's this verified? Thanks.

Michigan DMV
Michigan is unusually tough. I have a friend who works part time at the secretary of the state, and she said everyone renewing their driver's liscense are now required to also submit their SS#. Also it appears that everything IS being cross checked, registration, even other state records to track down people who are skipping out on child support amoung other things. Apparantly the info will be shared with law enforcement. Currently my husband and I are trying to figure out how we are going to renew our vehicle registration and driver's liscenses this coming year without revealing to the state our true home address.

Life Insurance
How do I obtain life insurance without giving my SSN? My prospective agent keeps telling me they require it. I see no way of getting around DOB and driver's license number (although I certainly do not want to give those either). Everyone tells me I am foolish not to have life insurance but I would consider forgoing it before sacrificing my privacy (and I am not sure that is a good idea in this case). Thanks.
...
Some companies may assign you a different number, but I am not sure. Perhaps some readers can help. If it comes to no insurance unless you give them the SSN and perhaps a passport number, many readers would opt to get the insurance anyway. You can STILL hide your true home address, right?

LLC for vehicle
If I register my car in a LLC, the main protection I would get would be from someone taking down my license plate and being able to acquire my name based only on the license plate number. But is it correct that if someone runs my name through the DMV and gets my driver's license number, the LLC name and registered vehicle (and license plate number) will be listed. The registration card I have now (in my dad's name) shows his license number on the card. Thanks for your help, I've never actually registered a vehicle before.
...
I have never heard of that happenening but each state has its own procedures. Perhaps Michigan is unusually tough.

credit card
Dear Mr Luna:
Some time ago you recommended a certain pre-paid credit card which can be used for emergencies, the internet, and situations requiring privacy but I have lost my notes on the subject. What is the name of that card please?
...
No, I have never recommended any of the pre-paid cards. However, some readers have mentioned Privacash.

LLC
[Edited for length] What is your stance on naming a NM LLC with your 'last name' and 'ventures' or 'holdings' in it? Does that ruin the privacy purpose too much for a business LLC versus a personal asset LLC?
...
In my opinion, yes, it usually does.

Stolen manuscripts
Manuscripts can be stolen from a home computer via the internet. It has been done via software developed in Israel. The link below describes the software, the finding of an author's work on the internet before it was released for publication, and the link to last year's article in Washington Post.

RFID Chips in Passports Start Next Week
According to ComputerWorld:
The U.S. Department of State is on track to start issuing passports with radio frequency identification (RFID) chips next week, despite warnings from some security experts that such systems could be accessed or tracked by hackers.
The new program will start in the Denver passport office and be rolled out across the country over the next several years. All American passports are expected to include RFID chips containing personal information by 2017.

Social Security Direct Deposits
The folks at Social Security look at you as if you're an ememy or terror bad guy when you tell them you do not want direct deposit. To me, using direct deposit just confirms their hooks into your life.
Also, I wish to identify myself as a person without a home. That throws them a curve, too. If you live in various places - they seem to want control.
How can you politely tell them to go screw themselves?
...
You don't. Work with the system. Give them a ghost address.

re: Simon gift Cards - Jennifer, Tampa, FL
All they require is your name, address, and "perferred mall" (which can be set to none).
I guess they require your email address too. Also, I remember putting my phonenumber somewhere on the site, but it wasn't required.
You don't have to register the card. It's just when you use something like PayPal. I charged some things without registering it and had no problem. When I set up a PayPal account, they froze it because the info I gave didn't match the info associated with the card. Basically, if you use it somewhere where they'll check to see if the info matches the card, you could have a problem.

John Clark from San Francisco
In your first book you mentioned using John Clark from San Francisco for business LLCs. Your new book didn't talk about him, but mentioned a new person for NM LLCs. Do you still use John Clark? I ask because I am looking for someone to help me start two business LLCs: one for investment real estate, and one for an internet business. Thank you.
...
No, John left the field of law years ago. Sorry.

The best way to get around the problem is to have an extra laptop with virtually no files, and travel with that. There are internet programs where you can access the files you need, while on a trip.

update
Read your Invisibility book when it came out. Have you updated details since then--getting on a commercial flight, etc?
Look forward to your answer.
...
If you have the 2000 edition, you should update to the revised version, 2004. No particular updates and yet needed but when they are, I will start an update link. However, I no longer suggest any way in which to take a commercial flight without identifying yourself, for obvious reasons.

Buying Privacash Cards in St. Louis, MO
(In response to Stan, MO 35's 7/21/06 post)... Stan, I bought a PrivaCash card a few months ago at St. Louis Jewelry Repair, 1330 Aubert Ave. Ste. 103 St Louis, MO 63113 [it's a little strip mall, off Page Ave at N. Kingshighway].. I think there are also a few locations on West Florissant, also in the City. Good luck!
p.s.- I like the PrivaCash card's privacy aspects, but the fees can be a bit steep ($0.25/transaction, $4.95 every time you reload money to the card, $4.95 monthly maintenance fee, an additional $4.95/month if you don't have any transactions within a 90 day period, etc. etc. )

Simon gift cards
When you register one, do they want anything other than name/address/phone? You can't see their registration page without giving a card number, and I know some gift card vendors demand intrusive information like SSNs and birth dates for their online registrations.
...
I do not use the gift cards, but perhaps some reader can help out?

Doc & Privacy
NOTE: Usually, even if you have to give an SSN for insurance purposes, you only have to give that of the "insured party", not necessarily the patient. My husband's SSN is used for our ins. filing, but we do not give anyone else's to doc's ofc, etc.

California LLC that is private?
Since I am a California Resident I am forced basically to form a LLC in my state, instead of a New Mexico LLC if I am running a business.
Even though I can't form a NM LLC, how can I form a California LLC with the most privacy? Aka - do I have to list my place of resisdency when I form my LLC? Can it be a friends address or PO Box (like Mail Boxes Etc).
* OR... should I form a NM LLC w/ the Canary Island address - and then register with California as a out-of-state LLC - which will make it so my home address is not listed on the California LLC Businesses site?
HELP!!!
...
Questions about CA LLCs should be directed to your CPA or attorney. I recommend LLCs for owning assets privately. Using them in business is a separate field.

Alaska address + public terminals
I have not been able to find the contact address for Rosie in Alaska to attain the pricing info.
The county library blocks most of the most interesting sites posted in this site. How to get around it and still use the same library system? I fear they have bent over for big brother.
...
The contact for Rosie is "canaryislands xatx hushmail.com" [remove x's] and is listed on my website. If you cannot get canaryislandspress.com at the library, try jjluna.com.
